On the left - the badge of Robert Bilodeau, one of NYPD’s finest, surrounded by a halo. He was killed in the line of duty. During his time as an officer, Officer Bilodeau was severely injured multiple times – including being stabbed in the eye and having a slashed throat that required 63 stitches (he returned to work 3 weeks later). In 1980, he was gunned down in a narcotics bust. He is one of very few NYPD officers to have received 2 medals of honor.
On the right - the badge of Jon Burge, a former Chicago PD lieutenant and commander, being scorched in a pit of flames. He is known for participating in the torture and forced confessions of over 200 suspects in the 70’s and 80’s. He would burn suspects with cigarettes and radiators, suffocate them with plastic bags, electrocute their genitals with a cattle prod, and beat them with telephone books. (Just a horrible, horrible man.)
